UK Uncut activists brought a bit of cheer to Aberystwyth streets at Christmas, singing very special carols outside a number of deserving businesses. Those graced with their very own seasonal songs included Lloyds TSB, who splashed the cash on a £1.45m bonus for former chief executive Eric Daniels in 2011 – despite having been bailed out to the tune of £19.9bn by taxpayers in 2008. Tax avoiders HSBC and Boots as well as big-bonus-paying loss-makers RBS/HSBC were all serenaded with adapted Yuletide favourites.
A certain political party was blessed with its own version of “The twelve days of Christmas”: “The twelve days of Lib Dem betrayals”.
Philip Green, whose retail empire includes Topshop, Topman, Dorothy Perkins, Burton, Miss Selfridge and BHS, was musically congratulated on the miraculous feat of evading personal income tax to the tune of some £285m.
Philip Green:
Pay your tax!
(to the tune of “Jingle Bells”)
Mr Philip Green
You’re a common thief
The funding that you stole from us
Is just beyond belief
20,000 nurses
For those in real need,
30,000 studentships –
The price of one man’s greed (OH!)
Pay your tax, pay your tax, pay your income tax
Stop avoiding and evading, give our money back OH!
Pay your tax, pay your tax, pay your income tax
Stop avoiding and evading, give our money back BOOM!
Mr Philip Green
Pay your income tax
Don’t give all your dough
To your wife in Monaco
David Cameron
Make them pay their tax
Don’t look after wealthy bankers
Give our money back (OH!)
Pay your tax, pay your tax, pay your income tax
Stop avoiding and evading, give our money back (OH!)
